About This Application

The New Jersey Governor’s “We Value Our Veterans” Academia Award recognizes educational institutions that actively support and honor veterans on campus and within their broader community. This application allows institutions to document initiatives they have completed, such as recognition ceremonies, priority registration, campus displays honoring veterans, resource listings, student or board representation, and other qualifying programs and services.

Who Should Complete This Form

This form is intended for New Jersey colleges, universities, vocational schools, and other academic institutions seeking recognition for their commitment to supporting veterans and enhancing their academic and campus experience.

Time Required

The application should take approximately 10–20 minutes to complete.

What to Expect After Submitting

Once you submit the form online, you will be contacted by the New Jersey Department of Veterans Affairs within 5 business days with a decision regarding your institution’s application.

You must have at least 70 initiative points before you can proceed. If you cannot accumulate at least 70 initiative points, then you do not qualify for this award.

Please explain how you implemented your veteran initiatives:

Parking spots designated for Purple Heart Recipients and/or Veterans (5 points)

Host a recognition ceremony on Veterans Day or other military related dates thanking the military and/or Veterans for their service (15 points)

List Veteran resources and include the Department of Veterans Affairs link on your website (5 points)

Honor Veterans at board meetings (5 points)

Incorporate a Wall of Honor or Memorial on prominent display (10 points)

Have Veteran Service Officers available for Veterans (5 points)

Care packages sent to families left behind during deployment (10 points)

Hold quarterly Veterans round-tables (5 points)

Ensure that a Veteran sits on one of the school boards (15 points)

Breakfast with the President for all who are serving or who have served (10 points)

Hold a Veterans Service Organization Meet and Greets (15 points)

Any initiatives not on this list that have been done towards helpings Veterans (15 points)
